This program is excellent for summer camps and family reunions. It explores the principles of air pressure, friction, volume, division and design all while the kids think they are just making awesome contraptions to launch mini marshmallows at the wall or campfire. By building launchers out of 1/2″ CPVC potable water pipe the kids work through a series of challenges meant to test their problem solving and critical thinking skills. Every time we run the program our leaders learn something new as well. The best part? The kids can keep their launchers and continue the design and re-design loop at home or the cottage all summer long.
Curriculum Targets: Physics (Pressure, Friction, Newton’s Laws), Math (Volume, Division, Fluid Dynamics) and Art (Design, Manufacturing).
* NOTE: This program is more expensive than all of our others because of the cost of the “potable water” (food safe) plumbing parts and the fact that the kids keep their contraptions at the end of the session. We cannot discount the price by having the kids return the kits at the end of the session for hygiene reasons.
